There were about 375 people who called this community home as of 2010, and the community is located about 90 miles west of Oklahoma City. In addition to being small in terms of population, Custer City is also small geographically – the total area of this community only consists of about 0.62 square miles.

As a tiny community, there are very few businesses or notable destinations located in Custer City. There is a Total Kwik Shop locate here, and neighboring Thomas is also home to shopping destinations like Thomas Drug and Variety, Open Window, and Hockaday Hardware. There are a few churches located in Custer City, but larger attractions can be enjoyed in neighboring communities. Crowder Lake State Park and Red Rock Canyon State Park are both found in the vicinity and offer a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors, with activities ranging from fishing and hiking to overnight camping and rappelling.
